| The 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships will be commence on December 26th. Team Canada will face Team Latvia for their opening game during the preliminary round. Earlier tooday, Team Canada easily defeated Team Sweden during an exhibition game by a score of six to two. It's widely known that Jordan Eberle, an Oilers prospect, will again be playing for Team Canada. During the exhibition game tonight, he scored a goal and assist for Team Canada. Drafted 22nd overall in the first round of the NHL's 2008 Entry Draft, Jordan Eberle is, of course, a big reason for Oilers fans to watch these championships. Playing for the Regina Pats in the WHL this season, Eberle has 29 goals and 31 assists for a total of 60 points in just 28 games. Next season, Oilers fans will expect him to make the team's roster. If you're wondering about the unusual color choice for this year's Team Canada jersey, it was apparently meant to pay homage to the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the CFL since these Championships are held in Saskatchewan. Naturally, the second reason for Oilers fans to watch these championships is Magnus Paajarvi-Svennson who was drafted 10th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Oilers. He did manage to notch an assist during tonight's exhibition game vs. Team Canada. When it comes to Swedes, much like eyebrows, two are often better than one. Consequently, the Oilers also picked up Anton Lander in the second round, 40th overall, following their selection of MPS. Anton Lander like MPS is playing in the Swedish Elite League this season. Unlike MPS, he seems more destined for a checking center role should he make it to the NHL. Apparently Taylor Hall left tonight's game after the first period with an undisclosed injury. It may have been for precautionary reasons, and it's still possible that he'll return to play in the tournament. He's the only player on Team Canada's roster for this tournament that has yet to be drafted. The Oilers aren't headed anywhere at their current pace. Should they manage to complete the dive-for-five, we might get lucky and win the draft lottery.
