| Oilers lose to Capitals 4 2
The Oilers collapsed under the immense pressure of the high-flying Washington Capitals during the third period. Not surprisingly, the third period was the Alexander Ovechkin show. I did manage to catch part of this game while at a Christmas party last night, but I don't have any insights other than to agree with Jonathan Willis and David Staples that this just isn't a very good hockey team. I guess that's a little bit of stating the obvious for a team clinging to 14th in the West. Deslauriers had some highlight reel saves early on then got beat on a bad wrap around, on high shots, and not-so-great rebound control which have been problems for him previously. Not to place the blame on Deslauriers, but when a team gives up 42 shots against a team like the Capitals, you're going to need outstanding goaltending to win. With the game tied and the Oilers somehow finding away to kill the 3v5 penalty, there was a glimmer of hope that this game might go to extra minutes, but what seemed inevitable ended up happening.
