| Jordan Eberle - The Light at the End of the Tunnel Let's acknowledge that it's been a difficult time to be an Oilers fan or worse yet in my case, an Oilers blogger. The Oilers are coming off a stretch of a single win in the past seven games. Worse still, there's been little signs of life from having watched the games. Even though I myself am always an optimist and loyal to the Oilers, already I find myself paying closer attention to the talent in this year's draft. Over at the Cult of Hockey blog (Edmonton Journal newspaper), David Staples himself recently quipped: I guess I could just stop watching and blogging about this team, just like many of you have already done. I'll give it a few more weeks . . . David, say it ain't so! I am sure David's just frustrated like many Oilers fans at the lack of life that we've seen in our team. Back to Jordan Eberle... First, I watched Jordan Eberle play in all the preseason games that he played in this year. What's interesting about the preseason is that observers can get some false impressions from watching games chalk-full of AHLers. With that element in consideration, I have to say that Jordan Eberle looked very good on the ice. In fact, though he wasn't able to produce much in terms of points, he was consistently one of the best Oilers forwards on the ice. However, as the preseason progressed and teams started to ice increasingly better lines, his lack of size did impact his play somewhat. Eberle himself did show a tremendous amount of both confidence and offensive creativity while on the ice. Nearing the end of the preseason, I didn't think that he was quite ready to play in the NHL this year, but he was getting close. Over at Hockey's Future, Jordan Eberle was recently name Husky WHL Player of the Month! Of note, that's a less banal than being named the employee of the month over at Tim Horton's. From the article: Since his return from the Edmonton Oilers on September 29th, the 19 year-old forward has made an immediate impact with the Pats recording 25 points in 12 games through September/October. Eberle has found the net 12 times and has assisted on 13 others all while maintaining a plus minus rating of +5. He is currently on a seven game point streak and has recorded a point in 11 of 12 games played since his return, including four multi-goal and eight multi-point games; Eberle also leads the WHL in the points per game category averaging 2.08 Pt/G. Next year, it seems likely that Jordan Eberle might be ready to play in the NHL. It's unfortunate that he's too young to play in the AHL this year as that league might be better preparation for him.
