| Edmonton Oilers lose 3-2 to Atlanta Thrashers at Philips arena - November 15th, 2009 With Horcoff, Hemsky, and Souray all back in the lineup at the same time, the Edmonton Oilers headed into this game relatively well-rested and stocked with players. In fact, it's one of the most complete Oilers' rosters that we've seen all season with only two key players in Grebeshkov and Pisani out of the lineup. Patrick O'Sullivan's been described as "snake-bitten" since his arrival last season. To date this season, his shooting percentage is just south of 5%. In today's game, fans were suggesting that he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a bucket of rice from 2 feet away. In contrast, O'Sullivan's able to find twine during shootouts with a 3/4 record this season. With this recent loss, the Oilers now fall to 12th in the Western Conference (Just 3 points ahead of the bottom ranked Anaheim who've played 2 fewer games). Over the past 10 games, the Oilers have gone 2-7-1. Somehow, the confluence of circumstances leading to Oilers fans getting hit particularly hard this month for PPV combined with losing hockey games probably doesn't sit well with the fanbase. Game Recap: In a previous post, I provided a period-by-period summary of the game. Oilers vs. Thrashers. In short, the Oilers failed to score on 5 powerplay attempts while allowing 2 powerplay goals against. The Thrashers had a very aggressive penalty kill which combined heavy pressure on the point which forced the Oilers to make bad passes with numerous dumps out of their zone from Hedberg. O'Sullivan found himself with numerous opportunities to tie the game during the third period, but couldn't get the puck on net. Studwick's defensive zone errors continue to cost the Oilers points in the standings as his mistake lead to the game winnng goal from Kozlov. Khabibulin made numerous saves to keep the Oilers in the game. Ales Hemsky didn't look great today and his passes were often intercepted. Stats Recap: - The Oilers won just 35% of the faceoffs! Gagner went 5-4 while Brule himself went 1-1... Cogliano went 0-7.

Fan Reaction over at Lowetide: Old MacT quote: “It's a big part of the game. If you get dominated up the middle, you don't have much chance to win, and that includes face-offs. They don't get a lot of attention by people outside the game, but people inside the game, coaches, know how important they are. To start with the puck is a huge advantage in any situation.” -Craig MacTavish Maxim Afinogenov's girlfriend: Game Highlights:
