Steve MacIntyre placed on waivers by Oilers

Oilers enforcer/pugilist, Steve MacIntrye has been placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers according to Dan Tencer's twitter:    If you want to follow the Low On Oil blog on twitter, here's the link:  Low On Oil Twitter.  From Dan Tencer's twitter:

MacIntyre on waivers. Was only a matter of time.

From NHL Numbers, Steve MacIntyre has a cap hit of just $525,000.  Of note, this is the last year remaining on his current contract.  This season, Steve MacIntyre had only played in four NHL games for the Oilers averaging 1:34 per game in terms of icetime.  In total, Steve MacIntrye has played just six minutes and 18 seconds this entire season.

For the Edmonton Oilers, it seems that coach, Pat Quinn, just didn't have much confidence in giving MacIntyre icetime.  With the long list of player injuries, the Oilers have struggled just to ice four lines during some of the recent games.  With Steve MacIntrye only playing just over a minute per game, it forced the team to juggle lines.  Overall, the long list of Oilers injuries made it difficult for them to keep Steve MacIntrye on the roster.  Steve MacIntyre was a fan favorite for many Oilers fans.

Here's his last fight as an Edmonton Oiler vs. Brian McGrattan:

I think Potulny and Reddox coming up put the nail in the coffin for him, they came up, and they played great. Quinn likes these two guys and management just sees no point in keeping Mac around anymore.

Good thoughts Horpensky... Yeah, if Quinn's refusal to play Smac wasn't enough, then the good play of Reddox and Potulny definitely forced the issue of placing MacIntyre on waivers.
