Game 60 Preview:  Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings - February 11, 2010 - 8:30 PM - SNET

One of my friends today commented how much free time he has now that he doesn't have to watch the Oilers play anymore this season.  If you've stopped watching like him, what are you doing with all of that extra free time?

Tonight, the Los Angeles Kings (36-20-3) host the Edmonton Oilers (18-35-6) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  The Oilers have lost four consecutive games heading into this one while the Kings are 9-1-0 with a single loss preceding this game.  In terms of the season series, the Kings have won both previous games.

There's an NHL trade rumor floating around that there might be a possible upcoming trade involving Andrew Cogliano and Peter Mueller of the Phoenix Coyotes.  Other than that, it's been pretty quiet lately on the trade rumor front for the Oilers.

7/11 - The Oilers are seven points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and 11 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes.

By the numbers, the Kings team stats don't quite jump off the page.  Their special teams include a 19.1% power play and a 79.8% penalty kill.  In terms of faceoffs, they're a shade under even at 49.3%.  They out shoot their opponents by 2.3 shots per game while outscoring them by .21 goals/game.

Jonathan Quick has a .906 save percentage and a 2.57 goals against average, but he managed to get the attention of Brian Burke in spite of these mediocre numbers to be selected for Team USA's Olympic hockey team.

Money Line: The Los Angeles Kings are huge favorites to win this game with the daily line set at -400/+350 in their favor.

Boring game with even worse commentary on Sportsnet. 1-0 for the Oilers after two periods almost. One of those things that makes you go "hmm."

Nice, Ryan Smyth with the goal mouth goal! Don't let it go to OT Kings!

Wow, the Oilers pull off a win in overtime. I've always wanted to see them use Visnovsky in a shootout.

Yeah, it looked like Handzus was going to give end the game with the Oilers getting the Bettman point. Boring game, horrible commentary, but an exciting shootout ending.

I thought Gene Principe was ok filling in for Kevin Quinn. Not his fault the colour guy has nothing to say.
