| Game Preview: Team Canada vs. Team USA - 2010 Vancouver Olympic preliminary round - Canada Hockey Place - 5:30 PM MT - CBC Team Canada (1-0-1-0) will play Team USA (2-0-0-0) tonight at Canada Hockey Place in Vancouver. With the current tournament format, it's the last preliminary game for both teams. The winner of this game will get a bye to quarter finals while the loser will have to compete for one of the four remaining quarter final spots. Team Canada dispatched Team Norway by a score of 8-0. However, Team Canada was forced into a shootout by Team Switzerland, narrowly escaping with only 2 of 3 possible points with the winning shootout goal from Sidney Crosby. From this game alone, it's clear that anything can happen with this type of tournament format. As well, despite looking like one of the best teams ever assembled on paper, Team Canada struggled against a squad with just two regular NHL players. Will this be a wake up call for Team Canada or is it a sign that Team Canada isn't as good on the ice as it is on paper? Canada Hockey Place - Protect This House!
Team USA fared better than Canada against Team Switzerland winning 3-1 in regulation time. Against, Team Norway, they fared nearly as well winning 6-1. On paper, Team USA has a hot goaltender in Ryan Miller who has the potential of stealing games for Team USA particularly with this type of tournament format. Team USA's roster is not quite as robust in terms of offense up front while their defense is probably Team USA's biggest weakness. For Team Canada, they've been lead by the Shark tank trio of Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton, and Patrick Marleau. Mike Babcock has used them extensively in the previous games especially as a power play unit. Last game against Switzerland, Dany Heatley was shaken up after being hit by a Shea Weber slap shot. Team Canada's top line will now see it's third player tryout of this tournament. Patrice Bergeron started the tournament on the right wing and was later replaced by Jarome Iginla. Last game, Mike Richards was moved to the top line to allow Rick Nash to play on the right side which he's more comfortable with. Money Line: Canada is favored to win by a decent margin (-175/+380). Team Canada Projected Lines Mike Richards - Sidney Crosby - Rick Nash Dany Heatley - Joe Thornton - Patrick Marleau Brendan Morrow- Jonathan Toews - Jarome Iginla Eric Staal - Ryan Getzlaf - Cory Perry Patrice Bergeron
Team USA Projected Lines Parise - Stastny - Kane Malone - Pavelski -Kessel Langenbrunner - Kessler - Brown Drury - Callahan - Backes/Ryan
