| Game 43: Coyotes at Oilers - January 5th, 2009 - 7:00 PM - Rexall Place - PPV Well, the Oilers have won a single game against the Leafs during the past ten games. Go team, eh? It's been an absolutely brutal year to be an Oilers fan to say the least. The Oilers are on the proverbial back nine of the 2009/10 season, so it won't be much longer till they literally hitting the golf course. Dammit. Prior to the start of this season, there was intense debate as to whether or not Oilers fans could handle a rebuild and consequently a low finish in the standings. To an extent, that question is largely irrelevant as we're now sitting on the floor of the Western Conference regardless. Basically, we found our way there one way or the other. Initially, the catch-phrase was the 'dive-for-five' implying some degree of intent to tank this season in order to get a top-five draft pick. Lately, there hasn't been any intent necessary and now we're simply in the "fall for Hall." Rexall Mausoleum Coliseum Take your pick-Oilers, Springfield Falcons, or the Stockton Thunder, they're all hitting rock bottom in their respective standings. Hockey as a sport is intended to provide some form of entertainment and when your team is terrible, that element is implicitly lacking. In short, it sucks when your team loses nine out of ten games. It sucks even more when your team is already out of the playoff race just half-way through the season. Paying to watch a team that's already missed the playoffs half way through the season takes extreme devotion. This game is again on PPV. For Oilers fans, this has been somewhat of a roller coaster of a season. When the Oilers started to fall in the standings, initially it was frustrating and fans consequently started getting angry. I know that I did. Lately, that anger has started to subside and for many has turned to disinterest. I still care about this team, but I'm struggling to find reasons to watch Oilers games this season. Well, in my own way, I'll try to help you deal with the grief of the Oilers missing the playoffs for four-consecutive years. Let's work our way through the Kubler-Ross model Low On Oil model... Stages of Grief over Missing Playoffs
