GDT - Edmonton Oilers at Islanders Game 15 10 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
Okay, the Low On Oil blog site has moved to a new domain (here). The new website is only now 3 days old. However, I thought that I would try to create a game day thread for the Edmonton Oilers at Nassau Veterans Memorial (Islanders) - Game 15 - Nov 2, 2009.

As mentioned in the recent blog post, Oilers at Islanders, the Islanders themselves are on a 3 game winning streak. In contrast, the Edmonton Oilers have won just one game in their last five.

For the Edmonton Oilers, it sounds like Shawn Horcoff has recently came down with the flu. Mike Comrie will be out with the impact of the flu on his asthma. Lubomir Visnovsky's still a game day decision.

At this point, it's still anyone's guess what the Oilers lineup will look like. I don't think that we'll see the kid line tonight (Gagner, Cogliano, Nilsson) though.

Edmonton Oilers line combinations:

Horpensky Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky
Jacques-Gagner-Nilsson
O'Sullivan-Brule-Pisani
Moreau-Cogliano-Stortin

Visnovsky is playing. Rob Schremp is not playing tonight.

Rob Schremp hasn't played in 6 games according to the announcers. The Oilers so far have spent a lot of time hemmed in their zone. Their break out still needs some work. The Islanders are generating some good pressure down low and getting point shots with traffic in front of Bulin.

Strudwick is an honorary member of David Staple's "Corsi Brigade." Cogliano's line with the Strudwick pairing let Tavares get a good scoring chance and had a hard time getting out of the zone.

Ethan Moreau scores from behind the net! Edmonton leads one to zero. He centered the puck and it went off one of the Islanders dmen.

Nice play by Hemsky who walked in and undressed an Islander dman. He hit the post on the second shot. Roloson got his pad out on the first shot.

John Tavares scores! The game is now tied up at one. Chorney looked like he tripped behind the net. Grebeshkov then fell on top of him with 2 oilers dmen behind the net and no one out front. T

Tom Gilbert got hit by Al Sutton. Gilbert's head was down but he seemed fine. Jacques stepped in to fight Sutton. Not many punches were landed if any. Sutton got the sweater over Jacques head and the refs stopped the fight. Jacques gets the instigator and the Islanders get the powerplay.

The Isanders scored a few minutes after the penalty to Jacques ended. Brandon Wit scores on a somewhat lucky shot. It looked like he was just trying to get the puck back into the zone, but it went through some traffic towards the net. Credit due to the Islanders' strong forecheck.

Hemsky's been flying tonight but no goals yet. He had a good cycle going which ended when Horcoff tried to pass it to him and the pass got incercepted. Hemsky made another nice feed to Gagner who almost scored but Roloson made a great save .

Roloson's made some great saves. Nice save on Penner. Moreau's playing a decent game. The Oilers are getting some bad line matches tonight.

Wow, tons of pressure down low. Smid fell and lost the puck. The Oilers got the puck back and Lubo turned it over. Bulin made a flurry of good saves.

The Kid line was back out again with the struggling pairing of Chorney/Grebeshkov. The Oilers got hemmed into their zone. Bulin made a number of saves, but the Islanders scored to make the game 3-1. Brandon Wit hadn't scored in 90 games or so, but he's got two tonight.

Grebeshkov and Chorney have been an unfortunate pairing in terms of Oilers' defense. They've spent a ton of time in our zone. I guess they're like the new Strudwick/Peckham pairing or the weak link. Pat Quinn's continuing with the kid line again since Jacques is out. Not surprisingly they've spent a long shift in our zone.

Horpensky's been a solid line--pretty much the only one for the Oilers. However, they haven't actually got many shots on net. Tons of long cycles and the occasional shot on net. The Islanders are reported as 2nd in the league in blocked shots according to the game's announcers.

Grebeshkov heads to the box for a delay of game penalty. 17 seconds left in the period. Islanders still lead 3-1.

JF Jacques is back in the game after his 10 minute game misconduct. Bulin's been solid. The Oilers have been absolutely peppered with shots this period. I am not sure they've managed to get a single shot on the Islanders yet. Much of this period has been in the Oilers' zone.
